A video generated toward a database aesthetic by rearranging found footage from science fiction films and subtitled with text generated by the GPT-2 fine tuned on the text of science fiction novels. The methodology employed for generating the video is based on the concepts of database cinema and database aesthetics. Initially, a database of found footage was created with the utilization of deep learning methods that infer how state-of-the-art computer vision algorithms understand the world. Then, a new narrative was created with the algorithmic rearrangement of found footage in the database according to its iconography.

The employed methodology is applied to portray our collective imagination about how life in the 2020s would be from the perspective of decades-earlier science fiction films and books. It calls for the viewers to reinterpret the shown perspectives and reevaluate them in dialogue with the reality they experience as humans living at the beginning of the 2020s.

The work reflects on the various alternative narratives we can all create about our future. In a time of crisis in many aspects of our lives, it aims to drive us to think about alternative ways of imagining our society's configuration and the way we live in the echo of technological advancement and its penetration into our everyday lives, the climate crisis, and all the changes in well-established global equilibriums. Anticipating 2020s is presented as the various applied algorithms generated it without any post-processing.
