The Umbra is the innermost and darkest part of the shadow created by a solar eclipse. If you are standing within the umbra, you will experience a temperature drop and find yourself in darkness while you witness a total solar eclipse. This phenomenon is only visible from a very small area on the earth’s surface, offering an extreme perspective from the path of totality.

As the moon obscures the sun, evoking a rare moment of darkness, the human eye contracts in response to the reduced light, amplifying the ability to see the celestial beauty for a brief moment in time. In this correlation, we find a reminder of the infinite wonders of the universe and the breathtaking ways in which our senses connect us to the cosmos. Each person perceives this experience differently, depending on where they are standing.

"In The Umbra" features artists working from unique perspectives, exploring the allure of distant galaxies in outer space and contemplating the infinite possibilities that lie beyond the boundaries of planet Earth.

and will also be featured as part of the annual citywide Philadelphia Open Studio Tours.
