Scaling a Pyramid - Exhibition Book
Scaling a Pyramid documents the process, imagery, and evolution of Jonathan Latiano’s multidisciplinary art project of the same name. Blending photography, sculpture, and performance, the project investigates the subjective nature of scale through a deceptively simple conceptual prompt: build a sandcastle, then photograph every grain of sand it contains.
What begins as a straightforward idea unfolds into a meditation on labor, perception, and our place within the vast complexity of the natural world. The book includes vibrant images from the project alongside essays exploring its concepts and context. It invites readers to consider the immense geological and biological histories contained in something as ordinary as beach sand, challenging us to rethink what counts as monumental.
Both playful and profound, Scaling a Pyramid transforms the gallery—and these pages—into a site of spatial dissonance and wonder. It draws on object-oriented philosophy, the aesthetics of scientific observation, and the poetics of deep time.
When you purchase the book, a copy will be reserved for you. Hard copies will be available for pickup starting August 16 during our in-person book launch event. If you prefer to have your book shipped or would like to arrange an alternate pickup date, we’re happy to accommodate.
